What Apps Lurk Beneath

What Apps Lurk BeneathLike a horror movie where the evildoer is not revealed until the last few scenes, I am finding that many applications that I use every day have slowly been accumulating “links” to my Twitter account.

This is similar to how Cambridge Analytica’s apps operate, or maybe I should say, used to operate.

Once Apps or Widgets get access to your application, people rarely remember to go back and disable them later. Because of everything going on with Facebook, people are starting to realize this, but honestly, Facebook isn’t the only platform for these Apps.

To disable them, or “Revoke Access” as Twitter puts it, you can usually navigate to your profile and settings area. Twitter puts this under the “Settings and Privacy”.

Why does this matter? Well, for my own account, I just cleaned house to find that there were 25 different applications that had read and write access to my Twitter account. This makes no sense and I honestly can’t remember how half of them were set up.

Bottom line, it’s almost springtime here in NYC area, and its time to do a little Spring Cleaning.

Be sure to log in to Twitter (and your other platforms) and “revoke” access to any of these Apps that are lurking beneath your account.
